Saturday 15 November 2008, 5.30pm onwards, King's College, Cambridge
Memorial Evensong for Canon Pat Magee, followed by a
reception and High Table
As
many of you will already know, Pat Magee passed away in March of this year, and
there is to be a memorial evensong in Chapel next month at 5.30pm on Saturday 15
November. Pat served the Choir and Chapel in many capacities during his life,
first as a Chorister from 1924 to 1929, then as a Choral Scholar from 1934 to
1939 and finally as Chaplain from 1946 to 1952. The music for his service will
include Vaughan Williams' Love bade me
welcome, Howells' Collegium Regale
setting of the evening canticles and Bainton's
And I saw a new heaven. Following the
service, the College and Pat’s godchildren will be jointly-hosting a reception
in the Chetwynd Room, and it is also anticipated that many of those who knew Pat
will elect to stay on for dinner afterwards at High Table, which will operate in
the usual way.
If you would like to attend any part of the evening then please contact
Simon Tottman by e-mail (membership@kccaonline.org)
before Friday 31 October. This applies even if you only plan to attend the
service, as there will be large numbers present in the chapel that day and we
are co-ordinating some reserved seating. Those wishing to stay on for High Table
after the reception must sign in with the College in the usual way, in addition
to letting us know that you are coming. If you wish to dine at High Table but do
not have your own dining-rights, then we will be able to pair you up with
someone who does. Please contact Simon for more details. Guests are most
welcome.
